Daniel Darris-O'Connor, a 19-year-old Democrat, defeated longtime Republican state Rep. Marc Lombardo in an upset on Tuesday for a seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He unseated the 16-year incumbent to become the new representative for the 22nd Middlesex District. His win came amid a wave of Democratic victories across the nation in Tuesday's election.
Lombardo, an eight-term Republican lawmaker, had represented the 22nd Middlesex District for 16 years. The result makes Darris-O'Connor one of the youngest representatives-elect in Massachusetts history. The victory places him among the youngest state lawmakers in the state's history.
Darris-O'Connor already held local office before this race. He won a seat on Billerica's select board last year at age 18. He was still in high school when he won that seat in 2025.
