Republican Jon Husted and Democratic candidate Sherrod Brown are both focusing on the rising cost of everyday necessities.

Husted was appointed by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to fill the Senate seat vacated by JD Vance when he became vice president in January 2025. He is running to fulfill the remaining two years of that term. Brown served three terms in the Senate before losing Ohio's other Senate seat to Republican Bernie Moreno in 2024.

Democrats need a net gain of at least four seats in the November midterm elections to wrest control of the US Senate from Republicans. Republicans currently hold a 53-47 majority.
