Democrat Dan Koh defeated Republican Micah Quinney Jones in Massachusetts's 6th Congressional District and will enter Congress in January. He fills the seat Rep. Seth Moulton is leaving after 11 years, following Moulton's unsuccessful challenge to Sen. Ed Markey.

Democrat Dan Koh defeated Republican Micah Quinney Jones in the race for Massachusetts's 6th Congressional district. Koh is projected to win the U.S. House seat, filling the seat being vacated by Rep. Seth Moulton. He will enter Congress in January. In the general election, Koh faced Jones, an Army veteran and attorney.

Why the seat opened

Moulton is leaving the seat after serving 11 years in Congress. He left to run against Sen. Ed Markey but lost that race in September. Moulton did not seek reelection so he could challenge Markey in the Democratic Senate primary, and he failed to oust the two-term senator. Koh was among the first to enter the race to succeed him.

Koh's background

Koh is a former senior White House aide from the Biden administration and a former chief of staff to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. He served as Walsh's chief of staff when Walsh was mayor, followed him to Washington, and later took a job in the Biden White House. Koh previously lost a close primary to U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan in a 2018 bid for the 3rd District.
