Joe Milton will make his first NFL start on Sunday against the New York Giants, replacing Tanner McKee as the Eagles' starting quarterback. The Eagles play the Giants (4-2-1) at 1 p.m. ET. Philadelphia is turning to Milton as its starting quarterback for the game. The Eagles are reportedly benching McKee, who had been starting since Jalen Hurts was ruled out for the season.

Eagles struggling without Hurts

McKee started the last three games after Hurts was ruled out for the season with blood clots, and Philadelphia lost all three. The Eagles are 2-6 and have lost six straight games. Milton's first start comes with Hurts sidelined and the team at 2-6, as the Eagles try to end the losing streak. Coach Nick Sirianni gave McKee a vote of confidence on Monday, saying that McKee was the team's guy and that no changes were coming there.

Milton's background

Milton is a 26-year-old former Michigan and Tennessee quarterback whom the New England Patriots took in the sixth round of the 2024 draft. Philadelphia signed him off the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad on Oct. 16, less than a month before his first start for the team. He spent six years in college, starting at Michigan before transferring to Tennessee. At Tennessee in 2023, he became the full-time starter and threw for 2,813 yards and 20 touchdowns with five interceptions, and ran for 299 yards and seven scores.

NFL experience

Milton has appeared in five NFL games for the Patriots and Cowboys without a start. He has completed 37 of 53 passes for 424 yards and two touchdowns, with two interceptions. His only full-game appearance came for the Patriots in Week 18 of 2024 against the Buffalo Bills. In that game he completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards with one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown, and New England won.
