Bayer Leverkusen and Marseille meet at the BayArena in Leverkusen in Matchweek 4 of the UEFA Europa League 2026-27. The two sides are set to meet for the first time in a competitive fixture, so there is no prior head-to-head. Leverkusen have also never faced Marseille in European competition.
Leverkusen's perfect league phase
Leverkusen won all three of their opening league-phase matches, scoring eight goals and keeping three clean sheets, and were second in the table with nine points. Carles Martinez's team have yet to concede in Europe. Their most recent Europa League match was a 2-0 win against OFI Crete on October 22. They have a perfect record in the phase and are second in the 36-team standings ahead of Thursday's match.
Marseille's difficult start
Marseille lost all three of their Europa League matches and have no points. That leaves them 34th in the league-phase table, third last. Away from home they have been beaten in seven of their past 10 contests and have lost four of their six away games this season. In Ligue 1, however, they have won their last four matches and are sixth with 15 points from 27 available, three points behind second-placed LOSC Lille.
Leverkusen's recent form and injuries
Leverkusen lost 4-2 to VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday. The result ended their perfect home record this season after they had won their first five matches at the BayArena. Their last European home loss to French opposition was 7-2 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in October 2025. Forwards Eliesse Ben Seghir, Martin Terrier, Christian Kofane and Moussa Diaby are missing through injury. Right-back Guela Doue is out for a few weeks.
