Former prime minister Liz Truss was pictured attending a dinner at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort on the night of the 2026 Midterm Elections. Truss posed with Polish MEP Dominik Tarczyński, who was previously banned from entering the UK to speak at a rally. Truss criticised that ban as shocking at the time.
Republicans suffered heavy losses in the midterms, losing control of both the Senate and the House to the Democrats. On midterms night a Blue Wave of Democrats wiped out Republican seats, taking over both the Senate and the House.
Truss served 49 days as prime minister before being ousted. She accepted minimal responsibility for the spike in borrowing rates that ultimately led to her resignation. Her new book blames the Bank of England and pension funds for the economic shock following her 2022 mini-budget.
