Democrats won Senate races in Texas, Maine, Michigan, Ohio, Kansas, North Carolina, Iowa and South Carolina, according to projections. Republican Pete Ricketts won in Nebraska and Ashley Moody in Florida. Alaska and Mississippi remained uncalled.

Texas and Maine

Democrat James Talarico beat Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Texas Senate race, flipping the seat. Texas has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1988. Democrat Troy Jackson defeated incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins in Maine, in a race called in the early hours of Wednesday. Collins conceded, and the result ended her three-decade tenure.

Other Democratic wins

Democrat Abdul El-Sayed defeated Republican Mike Rogers in the Michigan Senate race, becoming the nation's first Muslim senator. Democrat Adam Hamilton won the Kansas Senate race over Republican Sen. Roger Marshall, the first Democrat to win a Senate seat in Kansas since 1932. Democrat Sherrod Brown defeated Republican Sen. Jon Husted in Ohio, flipping the seat. Democrat Roy Cooper won the North Carolina Senate seat over Michael Whatley, flipping it from the GOP. Democrat Josh Turek defeated Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson in the Iowa Senate race. Democrat Annie Andrews defeated Republican Sen. Darline Graham in South Carolina. Graham had taken over the seat after the death of her brother Lindsey Graham earlier in 2026. Jon Ossoff won reelection in Georgia over Republican Mike Collins, Trump's pick.

Republican holds and undecided races

Republican Pete Ricketts defeated independent Dan Osborn in the Nebraska Senate race. Republican Ashley Moody won Florida's Senate special election and will be up for reelection in two years. Alaska's Senate race between Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan and Democrat Mary Peltola remained uncalled, a toss-up. In Mississippi, Democrat Scott Colom led Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith by 28 votes with about 97% reporting, and the race was too close to call.

Governors and Trump

Keisha Lance Bottoms of Georgia became the first Black woman elected governor in U.S. history. Amy Acton became the first woman elected governor of Ohio. President Trump acknowledged on Wednesday that the eight-month-long Iran war had hit the Republican vote, but defended his actions.
