Spanish police opened an investigation into possible involuntary manslaughter after the player died following the collision with the opposing goalkeeper. The national police homicide division opened judicial proceedings, described as a routine procedure after any death not by natural causes. Under Spanish law, any death deemed non-natural automatically triggers a judicial inquiry.

De Miguel, born in Madrid, started his career at Leganes in 2015 and played for eight different clubs in Spain. He began his senior career with Leganés B in 2015 and joined Tenerife last year.

Andorra, owned by Gerard Piqué, offered condolences, and Piqué said on X he was sorry with all his soul. Lionel Messi posted an Instagram story offering condolences, saying there are no words and sending strength to De Miguel's family and friends. Owono has deactivated his Instagram account. The Spanish soccer federation postponed two Copa del Rey matches and one Copa de la Reina match scheduled for Tuesday.
