Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., was hospitalized Saturday after a stroke, a spokesperson for the senator said Sunday. His chief of staff, Allison Herwitt, said in a statement that he was transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring.
Murphy began experiencing numbness in his arm on Saturday afternoon while at his son's hockey game. He was taken to a local hospital, where it was discovered he had experienced a stroke, and was then moved to Johns Hopkins.
According to the statement, Murphy is responding well to treatment and is awake and alert. Herwitt said doctors are encouraged by his progress and the office is optimistic he will make a full recovery.
Murphy has been viewed as a possible 2028 White House contender. In recent weeks he has crisscrossed the country propping up Democrats in the midterm elections.
