The Kern County District Attorney's Office filed charges on 2 November, and Moreland was taken into custody on 4 November. Moreland is expected to be transported to Kern County, California, to face the charges, and the arrest does not establish guilt.
The charges
According to the criminal complaint filed on November 2, EDP445 faces four felony charges. They are attempting to commit lewd acts upon a child, meeting a minor for lewd purposes, contacting a minor with intent to commit a sexual offence, and distributing or showing pornography to a minor. The charges originate from an alleged incident on April 17, 2021.
Documentary and earlier reviews
The investigation followed statements made by Moreland in a documentary released this year. In the documentary The Sick Mind of EDP445, directed by Mike Clum, Moreland acknowledged in an interview with Chris Hansen that he had gone to the location intending to meet an underage girl. He said he was trying to have sex.
Prosecutors said earlier reviews in 2021 and 2022 encountered difficulties because reporting parties did not cooperate. The DA's release said that when the office initially reviewed the incident in those years, prosecution faced significant challenges, particularly the lack of cooperation from the reporting parties.
