Elon Musk said Grok users will reach usage limits faster than normal because serving Grok Bot has become too expensive. He said the change was not a glitch, following user complaints of weekly limits maxing out over Halloween weekend.
Elon Musk said on Sunday that Grok users would hit usage limits more quickly than normal because servicing Grok Bot has become too expensive. The SpaceX CEO said in an X post that the usage-limit change was not a glitch. On Nov. 1, 2026, he replied to a user who asked for a usage reset after hitting 100 percent with four days left in the weekly cycle. In that reply, Musk wrote that the cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue. He also described reducing allowances and communicating that to users as simply being sensible.
Over Halloween weekend, some Grok Bot users found their weekly usage limits unexpectedly maxed out, even if they had not been using the agentic AI overnight. Some users reported on X that their usage jumped from as low as 50% to 100%.
On the SpaceX third-quarter earnings call, Musk called Grok Bot the fastest growth of a product he had ever seen in his life, and said he had never seen anything grow this fast. SpaceX said in its earnings last month that Grok Bot had 800,000 paid weekly users. SpaceX also said in a filing last month that AI now makes up 52% of company income. Commenters pointed to a Musk post from a few days earlier saying that saving money for the distant future is pointless with the advent of super intelligent abundance.
SpaceX's renamed Super Intelligence division turned a profit of $431 million. The profit would have been higher if not for $1.2 billion of one-time costs related to the acquisition of Cursor.
