Michael Douglas, 82, said at an appearance promoting his memoir One Helluva Ride that Jack Nicholson, 89, is not working any more, is well, and has disappeared from public view. Douglas made the remarks at an event in Swansea, and he spoke at the Swansea Building Society Arena while discussing the memoir. He described his friend as well but as having disappeared.

Douglas said he still sees Nicholson, who he said is fine and at home walking around in his slippers. Douglas also said he understood Nicholson's decision to stop working after so many years in the business. He added that he would have liked to act alongside him.

Nicholson last appeared on the big screen in 2010's How Do You Know, a comedy that also featured Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon. He has rarely been seen in public over the past decade, and he has never formally announced his retirement. In 2025, he made a surprise onscreen appearance to introduce Adam Sandler on Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary episode, having done something similar at the SNL 40 show in 2015. In 2024, Carol Kane told The Independent she remains in touch with him.

Douglas produced One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, the 1975 film in which Nicholson played Randle McMurphy. The two men never appeared together in a movie.
