Macronix, a ROM supplier for Nintendo Switch cartridges, said it would gradually phase out ROM production and focus on NOR flash for data centers. Nintendo sold 6.49 million Switch 2 units in April–September 2026, down from 10.36 million a year earlier, and kept its full-year forecast of 16.5 million.

Macronix, a ROM supplier for Nintendo Switch cartridges, said during a recent quarterly earnings call that it would gradually phase out ROM production and focus instead on NOR flash memory for data centers. Chairman and CEO Miin Wu said on the Q3 2026 call that demand for NOR used in data centers is very robust and that customers are chasing the company for more capacity.

Nintendo sold 6.49 million Switch 2 units in the first six months of its fiscal year, which ended September 30. That total consisted of 3.82 million units in the first quarter and 2.67 million in the second quarter. The April–September figure is down from 10.36 million units in the same period the prior year.

Nintendo is maintaining its forecast of 16.5 million Switch 2 units for the current fiscal year. That would be almost 17 percent lower than the 19.86 million units sold last year.
