The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time returns as a from-the-ground-up remake for Switch 2. It adds modern graphics, movement and camera controls, while story, scope and challenges stay just about the same as the original. Some balance tweaks have been made.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a from-the-ground-up remake of the 1998 Nintendo 64 game, adding modern graphics, movement and camera controls. The remake for Switch 2 arrives almost 30 years after the original. The original was released in 1998, and a 3DS port followed in 2011.
According to the reviewer, Nintendo has not changed the story or gameplay, and the core mechanics are largely intact. The remake's scope, story and challenges remain just about the same as the original. It is not an exact one-to-one remake of the Nintendo 64 original, nor a complete reimagining. Instead, it is a modern interpretation that adds depth through its art style and expanded dialogue.
The remake adds a jump button that works anywhere and lets players look around and Z-target with a trigger button. The original had auto-jump and no second analog stick for camera control.
Balance tweaks include reducing how many rupees can be farmed early on. Some terrain has also been fixed to prevent certain exploits and shortcuts, and Navi is noticeably less talkative.
